Kirti Kulkarni, MD

University of Chicago Hospital

Kirti Kulkarni, MD is an Associate Professor of Radiology and the Director of Breast Imaging Fellowship program at the University of Chicago. As a physician-scientist, her research focuses on newer imaging tools to evaluate breast specimen margins intra-operatively and has led ECOG-ACRIN clinical trials to assess utility of Abbreviated MRI in finding cancer in women with dense breasts. Her clinical interests include creating patient and physician awareness, detecting breast cancer early using appropriate screening tools and utilizing newer techniques for localizing and treating breast cancer. Along with the team of technologists and physicists, she leads the MQSA quality standardization protocols that have helped the breast imaging center showcase highest quality of care and patient satisfaction. She is a member of the global health initiative program at University of Chicago and engages in various outreach programs across the world to reduce health disparities in women. She is enthusiastic about a healthy diverse work climate to create, foster, and sustain a positive, beneficial, and inclusive environment for everyone. As part of the Diversity and Inclusion committee, she initiated the inauguration of Radiology Expo which is now in its 5th year. A dedicated educator to medical students, residents, and fellows, Dr. Kulkarni recently won two awards for teaching excellence at the University of Chicago Medicine. When not at work, she enjoys biking, playing tennis, painting and writing poetry.
